“if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it” – Jeremiah 18:8
Our nation is in political turmoil. On July 13th, 2024, Donald J. Trump, the leading Republican presidential candidate of the United States of America, survived an assassination attempt by an ear width. This is what happens in banana republics. Is that what we have become? I ask that of all sides of the political spectrum in this country.
Many attribute the protection of President Trump to Divine Providence. President Trump’s life was in God’s hands that day. His life certainly was not in the hands of a watered-down Secret Service detail protecting Trump. The detail apparently put gender representation over expertise of protection, and it nearly led to catastrophe. This last point is contested by some, but there is no doubt there were glaring problems in the protection offered July 13th.[1] The Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned in disgrace as a result of the botched coverage.
But that such a violent attempt was made, is an indication our nation and many of its people are confused, frustrated, delusional, inhumane, even violent. We have seen violence on our nation’s streets escalate in recent years. This time we were an ears width from a likely revolutionary retaliation. What will happen next time? He who has an ear, let him hear. Are you listening? Are you watching? Are you aware of what is going on?
Corruption, self-service, self-enrichment through privileged position payoffs and insider trading have become the rule in the branches of our government. Who is it that so many politicians with government salaries in the hundreds of thousands are able to accumulate a disproportionate income in the multiple millions? It’s a situation that needs to be investigated. It’s just one of the darknesses in our government that needs to be exposed (cf. Ephesians 5:11).
Politically, power lust is rampant. Asking for term limits is like asking the fox, out of the goodness of its heart, to stop eating the chickens and their eggs. It ain’t happening.
We are a country divided by race and class by design of those in office who would divide us in order to conquer us. We are more the divided states of America than the United States of America. That is a strategy of control; divide and conquer. Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” (Matthew 12:25). Jesus said this regarding the house of Satan. Have we become a nation divided by demons? Sometimes it looks and feels that way.
There are enemies in our country who seek a socialist replacement for our Constitutional Republic, willing to sacrifice our freedoms on a system that is never ever succeeded before. To them our freedoms and liberties are worth their risk. Anyone familiar with history knows what we are seeing is straight out of the Communist playbook. Go ahead, read The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Fredrich Engels. Read Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, which was devoted to the first rebel, Lucifer. Read these books because you can be sure many of our politicians have. They have read them not to avoid or protect us from their contents, but to subjugate us by implementing it in our country!
Our nation is dissolving before our eyes with each criminal border crossing. Does anyone doubt terrorists or violent wolves are taking advantage to infiltrate our country through our porous borders? Does anyone doubt that such conditions make us vulnerable and overdue for another 9/11 type attack or attacks?
Our people are not only confused about who they are, as seen in the gender confusion debate, but this confusion is being promoted and encouraged to generations of younger and younger people. Like Isaiah predicted, it is a time where good is called evil, and evil is called good (Isaiah 5:20). Is such confusion meant as a cruel confused strategy to limit and control population by encouraging relationships that cannot reproduce? Is this confused state of affairs promoted not for protection of outcasts or hurting people, but more to make our country less populated and therefore more manageable? Just a thought.
America used to be united in its support of Israel. Some supported Israel on the Biblical basis of the Abrahamic Covenant (Genesis 12). Others supported Israel as the only democracy in the Middle East. But most supported Israel. What an eye opener it was to see the pro-Palestinian protests across America on college campuses and on our streets when Israel said enough is enough and decided to remove the Hamas terrorist perpetrators and their supporters of a holocaust level violence on October 7th of last year. Israel is determined that another October 7th will never happen again. Innocent men, women, children were hunted down and slaughtered, some of which were Americans. Some still remain captives, abused by their captors. But all the anti-Israel rioting, and protests are justified as Israel, tiny Israel, is painted as the aggressor. Of the estimated 411 million people in the Middle East, only about Eight million are Jews. Recent figures show Jews make up only 47% of the population in their own country! To see Israeli as anything but the underdog in this situation is preposterous but not unexpected given the temperament of our day.
Just the other day two flags of the United States of America were ripped down and desecrated in our capitol. The American flags were burned. Then they were replaced with two Palestinian flags. And initially, nothing was done about it! No arrests. Just a blind eye and affirming silence. Thankfully the US flags were replaced by House Republicans at the Union Station site of the desecration. The cause of such desecration? Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, our staunch Israeli ally, was in town to speak before congress.[2] He “thanked” our president for his military support, (though if you have been paying attention and reading between the lines you know there were strings attached and limits pushed in the deal by the Biden administration). What a terrible position to put a leader of our most loyal ally in. It is embarrassing. It is dishonorable and uncouth. It is just not right.
How was the prime minister of our arguably staunchest ally received? He was shunned by Democrats and accused by democratic congresswoman Rashida Talib of being a war criminal. She held up a sign, in the chambers of congress, during the prime minister’s speech, to make her point. Such arrogance. Have these people not seen the atrocities and demonic rapes, decapitations, and dismemberment murders, not to mention burning people alive perpetrated October 7th, 2023?[3] Is there such a blood lust to annihilate Jews that all Israel’s just and self-preserving response is brushed aside. Are these vile politically one-sided accusations justified for and by a “people” that have refused peace plans repeatedly because they really do not want peace, they just want the extermination of Jews. And such belligerents are supported by those in our government? My goodness, there does not seem to be any conceivable lower limit for us to sink to.
But the fires of discontent must be stoked. All of this darkness and more is being promoted and extolled as some kind of moral just cause by the media. It is despicable. It is a tempestuous state of affairs. Our destiny as a nation hangs in the balance.
We need more than to “speak softly and carry a big stick” as President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt once said. We need to get out the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). When we go to God’s word, is their hope for decadent depraved America?
Some hold out hope for America by quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14. Others object to quoting 2 Chronicles 7:14 with respect to America. They object to quoting the verse to any nation other than Israel. What does this verse say?
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV) – 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
It is true, Solomon was speaking with respect to God’s people. But proponents of referencing this verse to call our nation to repent say there is a principle enveloped here that can justify referring to it as a basis to call America to repentance.
Regardless of which side of the debate you are on, there is another passage that justifies the idea that God will be merciful to repentant nations.
The prophet Jeremiah was inspired to write these words:
Jeremiah 18:5-10 (NKJV) – 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! 7 The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8 if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. 9 And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, 10 if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.
There is hope! It is pretty clear by God’s words through Jeremiah that even though the focus begins on Israel, that it broadens to encompass any nation. If any nation turns from their evil God will relent in His judgment. God speaks here “concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom.” Considering this, we need to pray that America repents of its abominations. I have heard the definition of an abomination as anything that would cause God to bomb-a-nation. In light of that, America is certainly a-bomb-able. We are guilty as sin and deserving of judgment.
American novelist, writer, and journalist and one of the first female war correspondents Martha Gellhorn (1908-1998) once wrote:
People often say, with pride, “I’m not interested in politics.” They might as well say, I’m not interested in my standard of living, my health, my job, my rights, my freedoms, my future, or any future. If we mean to keep any control over our world and lives, we must be interested in politics.
Now that is purely a secular perspective. It is a perspective that includes an up-close firsthand eyewitness insight from a war that arose because of the political inactivity of populations of people. There is historical truth in what Ms. Gellhorn says.
Those who resist political involvement should pay attention to the Lord’s words through Jeremiah. The politics of a nation reflect the heart of that nation. Why not get involved and try to turn that heart repentantly toward God? If you just stand aloof from getting involved, wouldn’t that be a sin of omission? What was it James was inspired to say?
James 4:17 (NKJV) – 17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.
There is good to be done. Who will represent and speak on God’s behalf? I wonder if the silent uninvolved “Christians” are so, not so much because of spiritual principle, but because they fear confrontation or anything that would unsettle their safe spaces. I wonder if their priority is more their secure lives than serving the Lord. Just wondering, pondering, that’s all. Are you offended by my consideration? May I point out a quote from the United States Holocaust Museum and is also in Rad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Israel from Pastor Martin Niemöller who said:
First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
We might add:
Then they came for the Republicans, and I did not speak up (or vote) – because I wasn’t a Republican and their candidate for president wasn’t nice.
Then they came for the Christians, and I did not speak up – because it was only me and no one knew I was Christian, I didn’t want to offend anyone, or cause problems, or lose my job, or lose my possessions, or my money, or go to jail.
Then they came for me, and I was all alone, without hope, because my “Christianity” was like an empty tare, and I really had never counted the cost or denied myself with Jesus. He said, “Depart from Me, I never knew you, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:21-23).
Yes, some of that may offend you, it’s an opinion for you to take it or leave it. But I encourage you to do some soul searching to see if there is any truth to these words regarding you. Jesus told us to count the cost. Dust off your Bible and read Luke 14:25-33 prayerfully and ask the Lord to lead you. Oh Lord Jesus lead us!
To those who resist taking a stand or getting involved I would also remind of what Jesus said:
Matthew 10:32-33 (NKJV) – 32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. 33 But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
It’s time to rise up out of our safe spaces and take a stand. That would include prayerfully voting for political candidates that most closely align with scripture. There are no perfect candidates.
Our representatives are not pastors. Although pastors are not prohibited from serving in politics. Being a “pastor” should not be the end all reason to vote for someone. Some so-called “pastor” candidates are “pastors” in name only and worse than the most deceptive manipulative lying politicians. Beware!
The president is not usually a pastor, James Garfield being the exception. But the position of president can require one to be at times pastoral. A president is pastoral when they protect the unborn and persecuted, keep us out of wars, and free us up to pursue life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Just as a church pastor leads a flock to graze in God’s word and feed on His blessings, a president of the United States of America should lead citizens to graze on the Constitution and history, our purple mountain majesties, fruited bounty, and the graces God has shed on us.
But much of America has tried its best to blow smoke in God’s face. Much of America has gone out of its way to find new and ever more despicable ways to defy God, His word, and His people. Read Jeremiah and other passages like Romans 1, 1 Timothy 4, and 2 Timothy 3, to get an idea of where America should start to repent. We can get more ideas about repentance from what God said to Israel in such passages as Deuteronomy 28-30. Read your Bible.
The holiness code provided in Leviticus exposes the sinful practices of the people in Canaan by the prohibitions given by God. It’s not accidental that homosexuality, incest or bestiality, child sacrifice, etc., were prohibited by God in His instructions to His people. Such things and many others were noted because the pagan Canaanites were practicing them. These practices were hurtful, pain producing to people, abusive, indulgent, obscene, and enslaving, as well as offensive to God, and therefore God’s judgment was coming on them through the conquest of Canaan.
There is hope for America. There remains hope because God is merciful, and His salvation is a gift of His grace. I believe this upcoming national election is going to be a natural referendum on whether America survives or continues to decline into prophetic obscurity.
America is not prominent in scripture prophetically. Some would say it’s just not mentioned. Even those who say otherwise would have to admit America’s “prominence” in prophecy is paltry at best. But we can still pray and hope for God to stay His hand further. We can prayerfully beg for more time for more souls to be saved. “Father in heaven have mercy!”
Something else to be considered here. Christian, you are a resource of America. Have you forgotten all the blessing and profit you have experienced by virtue of God’s sovereign placement of you in this nation? God is the One who has blessed us, but He has used this great nation as His instrument to do so. There’s a reason why the vast majority of people want to live in America rather than flee from it. Don’t we who have benefitted so much with life, liberty, and bounty by virtue of our United States citizenship, have a responsibility to repay this country? Are we only takers and not givers? You say you pay taxes or have paid in some other way, but still, haven’t you disproportionately benefitted from your investments? I believe we have a moral obligation to serve as good citizens and that means to be involved in the government laws and processes that have been the infrastructure that has kept this nation so dominant in this world. We are a generous nation. We help and protect the weak and needy. We have a big heart for others. Maybe we ourselves have benefitted from such generosity. Shouldn’t we take the baton from the greatest generation and pay forward their standards? Shouldn’t we try to succeed where others in the past failed or faltered? Shouldn’t we seek God for a revival and work for His righteousness as much as we can in the power He provides? I think that answer is “yes,” we should do what we can to save the nation God has blessed us with. Pray “God bless American and use me to do it!”
What is God’s will for America? We know God is not willing that any perish but that all would repent (2 Peter 3:9). That is the basis of our hope. The Apostle John was inspired to write:
1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) – 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
Let’s hope in Jeremiah’s and John’s and Peter’s, in God’s inspired words. Let’s be salt and light, watchmen and watchwomen, prayers, prophets, and proclaimers of God’s gospel and biblical truth. Let’s let His light reflect from us and speak His truth uncompromisingly in love. Let’s get our directions from the word of God, not some wicked worldly weak woke trend.
The time is critically at hand:
Romans 13:11-14 (NKJV) – 11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent; the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Get involved. Shine His light. Seek the empowerment and guidance of the Holy Spirit. Put on Christ! Pray God makes us what we need to be, to do what He calls us to do, for His glory, until He returns. That’s the Jeremiah 18:5-10 hope for America. That’s what I’m going to hope for, I pray you will too.
By His grace, in His truth, for His glory, until He returns, amen!
[1] I do not mean to insinuate that women cannot serve capably in the Secret Service. But I think it prudent to consider the question of gender equality because some often deny that there are real anatomical differences between physiological males and females. This is true in bone density, muscularity, etc. And strength is an important factor when it comes to protecting people. It does not mean that all men are stronger than all women, but that anatomically most men are stronger than most women based on how they were created. This is born out in the transgender case of Lia Thomas who ranked in obscurity when competing as William Thomas, ranked at the top when competing against women. https://www.christianpost.com/news/pastors-shown-footage-of-hamas-atrocities-at-embassy-screening.html
